What are the advantages of using vibra-technics motor mounts? Our products are designed to deliver uncompromising performance. Other benefits include improved handling and driving sensation.A lower overall engine movement considerably reduces the constraints on engine connections such as intermediate cooling pipes, fuel lines, exhaust systems, etc. The game between the engine and other critical parts such as a leg reinforcement and other elements under the bonnet is maintained. What is the difference between a "road" mount and a "competition" mount?
Engine mounting systems are a balance between the insulation of engine vibrations and the control of engine movement. The engine mounting system is actually an engine suspension system. Its geometry can be as critical as the main suspension system of your car. The same factors affect its performance, rigidity, damping, deflection, etc. When we design a system, we return to the first principles of vibration insulation, to ensure that we develop something that has the main function of isolating the vibrations of your motor.
The main difference between a "road" system and a "competition" system is the point at which they isolate the vibrations of the engine. Road systems must isolate vibrations until idle, which is extremely difficult to achieve while controlling the movement of the engine and requires careful adjustment of the rigidity of the support. Be aware that the "road" supports are more rigid than the original equipment and can therefore give perceptible vibrations. Competition systems have an insulation threshold above 3000rpm, below which the vibrations transmitted can still be quite high.
This allows us to make the system much more rigid to control the movement of the engine at least, usually less than 3 mm (compared to 25-30 mm for an oem system). How do motor supports improve manoeuvrability?
The engine and transmission typically represent a mass of more than 200 kg that swings under the hood of your car as a pendulum on its original equipment supports. There are two main ways in which this affects manipulation. 1 physical movement of supports during accelerations, braking and extreme turns. This actually moves the center of gravity of the car in the worst possible direction. This can seriously affect the balance of the car at the most critical time. When you control this physical movement of transmission, this can greatly improve the feeling of driving accuracy, especially on a car equipped with tires and competitive suspensions.2 secondary driving, sometimes referred to as "engine crash", is the movement of the engine caused by the shocks of the main suspension system, causing the engine to flicker on its supports. In extreme cases, it can be an unpleasant feeling of beating. The very large mass of the shaking engine will cause unwanted dynamic forces on the car.
What kind of supports do I need for my car track day? It depends a lot on the use you make of the car. If it is used as a road car during the week, we suggest that you use specified supports as a "road". They are more than able to manage the abuse of a day on track and would be considerably more robust than the original supports. Performance and manoeuvrability will be significantly improved. If your car is used only for days on track and is not used on the road, try the "competition" supports for a real feeling of racing car. I saw the term "nvh" used. Nvh is a widely used term in the automotive industry used to describe the quality of noise and vibration inside a car.
"noise" and "vibration" are measurable values but "hardness" is very subjective. The purpose of an engine mounting system is to reduce the nvh to an acceptable level. The ultimate goal is to make the engine in motion imperceptible to the driver and passengers. In reality, this requires significant compromises in the control of the movement and durability of the engine.Vibra-technics motor supports are designed to deliver excellent nvh performance without compromising engine control. What are the causes of engine vibrations? There are two main causes of engine vibration, the engine imbalance forces and the torsion vibrations resulting directly from the ignition of the cylinders. Depending on the engine configuration, the vibrations caused by the engine imbalance can be in any main axis or a combination of 6 main axes. Linear; vertical, lateral and longitudinal.
Rotary; roll, pitch and yaw. Some engine configurations are inherently extremely well balanced, such as in-line 6-cylinder engines, and some are very mediocre, such as the in-line 4-cylinder engine. High-cylinder 4-cylinder engines (2.0 l or more) suffer from a high level of vibration that occurs at twice the engine speed, known as second-order imbalance. This often translates into a booming noise in the car that can be heard at high engine speeds.
In many cases, engine designers have incorporated a balance (the shaft rotates twice the engine speed) to cancel these forces. The v8 engines with a multiplane crankshaft and a 90 degree v-angle are actually 4 v-twins connected end to end. These are well balanced and produce low levels of vibration. That's why this is the most popular configuration for a v8 series car. A high performance race v8 with a flat crankshaft has the same second-order imbalance problem as a 4-cylinder engine in line.
Flat crank v8 are used by ferrari, tvr ajp v8, lotus spirit v8 and the new mp4 12c mclaren. Torsion vibrations caused by cylinder ignition usually generate a problem at very low engine speed where the amplitude can be quite high and the frequency relatively low.
This can cause an unpleasant shaking in the car at idle. Do you only make black rubber frames or can I have other colors? As Henry Ford said, "you can have any color as long as it's black.
" We use the same principle, for almost the same reason! The black color is carbon. As with other carbon engineering and automotive applications, it is used to control some of the most critical features. In the case of rubber, this is resistance, stiffness, resistance to abrasion, etc. At the time of Henry Ford, it was used as a pigment to make black enamel paint.
At the beginning of the last century, resin-based paint containing carbon was a much more durable finish and dried faster than the other colors, so painting all the cars in black was a faster process. The time needed to paint a car was a bottleneck in the production of the model t, so henry standardized the black! We don't have to worry about speed, but the increased durability and resistance you get from carbon are important. Rubber can be moulded in other colours but at the price of some important features. We make no compromises on performance, so we only use black rubber! Why do you use rubber instead of urethane? We use the best available materials and technologies to do the job! Urethane is superior to rubber in terms of resistance to abrasion and chemicals, which is why it is used in forklift tires, mudguards, etc.
Equipment manufacturers sometimes use it for suspension stops because of its resistance to abrasion. It is also much more economical to manufacture as it is also available as a versable resin, so molding tooling is much cheaper.
Rubber moulding requires specialized injection moulding tools and high-temperature high-pressure moulding machines. For engine mounting applications, natural rubber or natural/synthetic mixed rubber is superior to urethane in all respects. # permanent creep and deformation (permanent deformation). One of the many critical weaknesses of urethane as an engine mounting material is the change in characteristics over a temperature range, especially its resilience. The engine compartment is subjected to extreme temperature ranges.
Urethane is unstable under these conditions. This is why equipment manufacturers never use urethane for a primary engine assembly system. Our policy is an ultimate engine mount solution without compromise. If urethane was the best material to use, we would use it!
My application is not listed, do you make one-time projects? Due to the way many car manufacturers now use global platforms, we can already make a support suitable for your application that is used on another vehicle. Please let us know what you're driving and we'll see if we have anything that's right. Developing a unique, complex and personalized system can be costly. Before having the first prototypes for vehicle testing, it took up to 200 hours of work in the R&D phase. However, we are still interested in new applications, so please contact us with your needs and we will see if it is viable for us. The future applications that we will review when we have eliminated the current backlog are. If you have one and want to be part of the development program, let us know. If you also need another suspension socket, please. Thank you very much for your interest. For more details on our delivery options and costs, please click here.
